After driving through a bucolic landscape that varies from the countryside surrounding Marrakesh, we start the Middle Atlas slopes where the falls are located, and where we will arrive after three hours’ drive. OUZOUD – BARRAGE OF BIN EL OUIDANE – IMILCHIL
After breakfast departure for the village of Imilchil which is located 1000m above sea level on the slopes of the mountains of the High Atlas chain. The village is famous for a “moussem”, a festival, which is celebrated every year in September and is dedicated to “marriage”. According to the tradition, the festival is celebrated in memory of two young lovers who belonged to different clans, a sort of Moroccan “Romeo and Juliet”. Families prevented the couple from meeting and marrying, so the two cried so much in despair until they let themselves die. Their tears created two lakes: Isli, which means “of him” surrounded by a very barren landscape, a little further away from the village, and Tislit, which means “of her” closer to the village. The festival still remains one of the few opportunities for young people in the area to meet and get to know each other, and it is a time of celebration with music and dance.
Dinner and overnight in Riad.
